Reactors and associated piping systems within Pharmaceutical Facilities are inspected for leakage in most cases prior to initial system start-up or when modifications are implemented. These inspections are conducted primarily with the unit off-line but in some situations on-line. Helium is introduced to the system and then pressured to operating pressure so the inspectors can identify the areas that allow the helium to escape. All valves, flanges, drains/vents and welds within the pressure boundary are inspected for leakage.
