Electrical Generator inspections are usually conducted with the unit off-line. Prior to returning a unit to service, at the completion of an outage, most stations want to insure the integrity of the hydrogen system. American Efficiency Services technique and experience can identify the sources of leakage within the hydrogen system, on average, within one 8 – 12 hour shift.
To date, identifying electrical generator hydrogen system leaks utilizing helium as a tracer gas, coupled with inspection experience, has proven to be the most cost effective method. One or two 291 cubic foot bottles of helium are introduced to the hydrogen system and the pressure is then increased to the generators operating pressure using dried plant air. Most leaks can be repaired immediately while the inspection crew remains on-site to insure the repairs have actually reduced the leakage. In some instances, the system must be relieved of the pressure so repairs can be made. In these situations the inspection crew either remains on-site during the de-pressurization, repair and re-pressurization of the unit to confirm the repair or in lengthy repair evolutions the crew is released and then re-assigned after the repairs to insure the systems integrity. On occasion, one or two bottles of helium will be introduced to the system while the unit is operating. This will allow the inspectors to check for leaks while the unit remains on-line. This option is most commonly chosen when a gross failure of a component occurs during operation. With AMERICAN EFFICIENCY SERVICES’ guarantee that we will find
the leak, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. |
