American Efficiency services RESOLVES LINGERING SOURCES OF LEAKAGE FOR
COVANTA-PHILIPPINES QUEZON STATION
January 2006 – Initial mobilization to the Covanta-Philippines
Quezon Station occurred during October 2005 to identify a condenser tube
leak that existed for 2 ½ months. Pressure test guns and ultrasonic
equipment had been used to identify the source of leakage and various
tubes were plugged prior to the AES mobilization without success.
Once access to the tube bundle was granted to the AES Inspection Crew
the leaking tube was identified, plugged and retested with no further
indications of leakage recorded. The entire process was completed within
2 hours. The tube bundle was returned to service with no condensate contamination
present.
A return mobilization was initiated during January 2006 to identify hydrongen
loss from the main electrical generator and to identify the source of
excessive condenser air inleakage. Seven leaks were identified on the
electrical generator with three of those leaks being major contributors
to the hydrogen loss. The ‘B’ Low Pressure Turbine crossover
Flange was identified as the major source of condenser air inleakage.
The leaks identified will assist Covanta-Philippines Quezon Station to
plan an efficient outage and return the unit to efficient operating conditions.
